Privacy is emerging as a key issue for social media/Web 2.0 websites and websites in general, as illustrated by the recent controversy surrounding Facebook's privacy policy. Effective privacy requires effective security measures. This non-technical presentation will draw on the experience of the security field to illustrate some of the privacy problems on social media web sites created by poor security. The lack of effective privacy can create real risks to a company's revenues and business model.

Drawing on the experience of the information security field, the presentation will include non-technical recommendations for "unstated" market requirements for product managers in all fields. It will close with a short discussion of the "Internet of Things," expected to be the next big wave of innovation.

Presenter: Phil Burton has been a consultant and trainer for the 280 Group for four years and has a twenty-five-plus year career in product management and product marketing focused on information security, data communications and networking. In addition to executing assignments for specific clients, Phil also conducts most the 280 Group's Product Management classes. Phil holds a Civil Engineer degree from M.I.T., and has passed the test for Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP). Phil is a Certified Product Manager and Certified Product Marketing Manager through the Association of International Product Marketing & Management.
