How many certifications des the AIPMM offer?

The AIPMM offers six (6) different certifications, the Certified Product Manager®, the Certified Product Marketing Manager®, the Agile Certified Product Manager®, the Certified Innovation Leader®, the Certified Brand Manager® and the Dual Certified Product Manager/Certified Product Marketing Manager®.

What is the difference between the CPM® and CPMM® exam?

The Certified Product Manager (CPM®) exam covers the product management functions such as championing new products throughout the front end of the product lifecycle, from inception through to launch.

The Certified Product Marketing Manager (CPMM®) exam covers the functio of product marketing which is responsible for ensuring the success of the product in the marketplace. It starts with a successful launch and continues as the product moves through growth, maturity and eventual decline. It is the function that initiates pricing actions, product focused marketing communications activities and represents the product to sales people, the channel and often customers.

What is the difference between the CPM®/CPMM® and the ACPM exam?

The Agile Certified Product Manager (ACPM®) tests for a thorough understanding of basic and advanced strategic and tactical concepts in agile product management.

What is the difference between the CPM®/CPMM® the ACPM® and the CIL® exam?

The Certified Innovation Leader exam insures that the CIL® understands and utilizes every phase of the innovation process to produce goods and services that are successful in the global market place and provide maximum return on investment to the organization.

What is the DUAL certification exam?

The Certified Product Manager (CPM®) and the Certified Product Marketing Manager (CPMM®) are combined in our unique DUAL Certification Package. It is possible to take each one separately. However, if the DUAL Certification is taken, the exam is scored separately for the product management portion and the product marketing portion. The final score on each will determine which designation the candidate is qualified to receive. In exceptional cases, individuals may achieve a passing score on both parts of the exam and are eligible for the dual CPM/CPMM credential.

What should I do to prepare for the CPM or CPMM exam?

The AIPMM Authorized Partner Network holds Educational Workshops in conjunction with the Certification Exam. These workshops, although not mandatory, are highly recommended review sessions for the exam. The AIPMM also conducts certification review online. Who can apply to take the certification exam?

Any individual with working experience in the product management, product marketing management or brand management field - from any industry.

Where and when can I take the certification exam?

The AIPMM holds quarterly Educational Workshops and Certification Exams around the country. Go to http://www.aipmm.com to find out when and where the next Workshop and Exam will be held.

When and how will I find out if I've passed?

Results are usually available within 3 weeks after the exam date. You will receive an email notification of your results as well as a printed certificate, if you passed the exam.

What happens if I don't pass the exam?

In order to receive your certification you must achieve an overall score based on the exam criteria. If you did not score at that level or above you must re-take the exam.

What is the exam scoring criteria?

Each exam has unique scoring criteria.

Certified Product Manager® 74%
Certified Product Marketing Manager® 74%
Agile Certified Product Manager 85%
Certified Innovation Leader 74%
Certified Brand Manager 85%
DUAL Certified Product Manager® & Certified Product Marketing Manager: You must score a 74% or higher to receive the first level Certified Product Manager Certificate and you must score an 85% or higher to receive the second level scoring for the Certified Product Marketing Manager Certificate.

How can I show my designation as an AIPMM Certification recipient?

Upon notification of passing the exam, you will be entered into the AIPMM certification database. You can then add the words and/or initials CPM®, CPMM®, ACPM®, CIL® or CBM® (depending on your credential) to your business cards, letterhead or other company material as you wish. Upon your request, we can verify your certification with prospective employers, clients, etc.

Are there different exams for different industries? If I am a software product manager, do I take the same exam as a consumer brand manager?

The questions are not industry based. The questions test the candidate's knowledge of the theory and best practices within the field of product or marketing management. The exam is not based on any particular methodology. It crosses industry barriers as it focuses on strategies and skills considered best practices throughout many disciplines.
